Retro look: I got the ticket for Maniratnam’s Agninakshatram at Pondicherry’s Raja theater. I was comfortably seated in the 6th row from the beginning and the hall was fully populated. A guy who came in after the movie started enquired me if the “Raja rajadhi raja” song was over or not. He breathed with a relief when I said “No”.

As soon as the guy with lot of 10 rupee notes in his hand appeared on the screen the theater was going berserk with whistles and howlings.

Wow what a redefinition of commericial cinema. Manirathnam along with PC Sreeram and Ilaiyaraja created havoc on the screen.

The VKR and Janakaraj comedy episode, however lewd it may be in those days standards, is a cult comedy.

Hmm. Missing Manirathnam a lot. I want Manirathnam to join hands with Ilaiyaraja and PC Sreeram again.
